Santa Maria Della Vittoria / The Ecstacy of Saint Theresa
Santa Maria della Vittoria houses Bernini's renowned Ecstacy of Saint Theresa. This great example of baroque architecture is found within the city of Rome. Its front facade is a fabulous baroque specimen. There seems to be several layers within the front facade as well as the Palladian pediment and scroll work on the upper portion. Bernini's masterpiece captures movement between the angel and St. Theresa. The floating nature and the hidden lightsource are also typical attributes of baroque. Even the little oval niche that the sculpture is carved in is typical baroque.
