'Green' with Envy of Design

Green Roofing in Almere, The Netherlands.

Green roofing systems is an important design aspect in urban centers. Without green roofing in place, human health, and environmental problems can result. The benefits include: lowering energy costs, reduction of storm-water runoff, and reducing the urban temperature by eliminating the “urban heat island effect.” The urban heat island effect raises the temperature in a city center due to the amount of heat reflective surfaces, which can spur or accelerate the creation of smog, and increase energy demand. A small patch of green in the concrete jungle of the world’s cities can go a long way in preserving a place’s quality of life and be pleasing to the eye, as well.
