Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza

Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza

Interior Dome

Located in Rome, this church is an obvious masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture. Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza was built in the 17th century by Francesco Borromini. The chapel was added to a pre-existing university called La Sapienza. Borromini had to design the chapel adapting to these pre-existing structures and he executed this exceptionally well with a concave facade. The concavity of the facade draws one inside to the chapel longing to see more. The viewer is not disappointed. The plan is modeled after The Star of David and the geometry of the inside is very mesmirizing, causing one to analyze every piece of sculpture in ascending motion. This chapel was definitely one of my favorites and I recommend any visitor of Rome to be mesmirized by the beauty of Roman Baroque!
