Murano Glass of Venice

Besides the unique canal systems, the romantic gondolas, and the timeless architecture, Venice is also know for its glassware. About every third shop or so is completely devoted to Murano glass. Every type of glassware, from keychain accesories to grand chandeliers, is represented in this ancient art form. Murano glass was first developed on the Venetian island of Murano near Venice in the 13th century. The artisans that created this type of glass contributed to the wealth of Venice and were often treated as nobility. They also invented many techniques for glassmaking that are still used today including crystaline glass. To see more visit: http://www.muranoglass.com/
