If you are ever walking about Genova enjoying the excruciating number of stairs you might be lucky enough to stumble upon one of the city's prized gems: the bagno di scala. That's right; carved into the solid rock side of a Genovian mountain is a toilet. Not an ordinary toilet but one with no door, and apparently still very much in use. It's an innovative solution to public restrooms in a medieval city and a must see for all tourists.
