Glockenspiel

The glockenspiel is a big ol' clock tower in the middle of Munich. The chimes ring daily at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., 9 p.m., and (also 5 p.m. in the summer.) The chimes' ring is similar to a cuckoo clock. Little figures come out and do a little routine for the tourists. Beware though, pickpockets are known to strike at these very times as tourists are mesmorized by the crude animations. It is part of a monument built in 1683 dedicated to the Virgin Mary commemorating the city's survival of the Thirty Years' War.
