St. Peter's Dome

St. Peter's Cathedral is one of the most poplular attrations in Rome. Droves of tourists come from around the world to admire its architecture, appreciate its history, or attend Mass. In addition to all of these opportunities, visitors to the church have access to yet another unique experience: climbing its dome. St. Peter's Dome is 394ft in the air, offering remarkable views from both within and without the church. From the inside, one has a godly perspective of St. Peter's nave and an up close look at the dome's impressive mosaics. On the outside, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of the city that are well worth the climb. It is 4 Euro to ascend the dome by foot and more to take the elevator halfway up. It is strongly recommended that you hike the entire way to gain a better sense of height while, at the same time, experiencing some very unconventional stairways.
