Portofino

Portofino is a tiny secluded resort village about 45 minutes south of Genova. The best way to get there is to take a train south to San Margherita and take a shuttle bus to the town as cars aren't allowed. The village is perhaps the most beautiful place in the Italian Riveria and has been a haven for the rich and famous for decades. Many Hollywood stars own property here, Elizabeth Taylor for example. At the time the village was virtually empty and only a few restaurants and stores (Gucci, Louis Vatton, Versace, etc) were open. There were also no boats in the bay but that will be filled with yachts in the coming months. There is also a castle and church overlooking the village which can be walked to and offer beautiful views of the coast. One note though, pack a lunch because food there is very expensive.
