In Brunelleschi's Dome
The best things are almost always secret. Both photos were taken on or around Brunelleschi's Dome in Florence. The top photo is a buttress at the very top of the dome, at about 10 AM. It was warm and sunny, with a beautiful, slightly hazy view of the city, and an almost perfect experience that I would have never had if I'd only studied it in the textbook. The bottom photo Is through a small window in the dome stairway, looking out onto what I can only assume is a small balustrade, but the juxtaposition of metal scaffolding and marble ionic columns, with the morning sun streaming through, was amazing.
