Iconic Windows

Location: Throughout Genoa, Italy

Throughout Genoa, a common thread uniting all types of architecture is the use of shutters. Whether its commercial space, offices, low, middle, or high income housing, shutters provide a cost efficient and easy way to adjust the climate within the home. Outwardly, the shutters create an identity for each building through the use of color, pattern, and repetition. Though simple in nature, shutters provide a complex foundation of identity and efficiency that can be seen throughout the landscape of the entire city.
