The end of the Christmas holiday ushers in a mass of sales throughout all of Italy. The stores must get rid of all their winter gear and so merchandise is marked down at least 20-30%. Often times stores have sales bigger than 20-30%! The smaller stores will even give shoppers an additional discount if you ask nicely. Via XX Settembre is a street next to the Piazza di Ferarri that is home to the larger department stores such as H & M and Coin. However, the little stores dotting the historic part of Genova are more liable to negotiate prices, and it's often more personal and more fun exploring the tiny streets.
