The "Victory"

A beautiful site to behold, this beauty can be found dry-docked on Portsmouth Harbor. Her name: The HMS Victory. She stands today as the "world's oldest commissioned warship." Launched on the 7th of May 1765, the Victory has seen over 200 years of almost continuous service. Designed by Sir Thomas Slade, the Surveyor of the Royal Navy; she was the only ship of her class. The Victory's great fame came October 21, 1805 with the defeat of the Franco-Spanish fleet in the Battle of Trafalgar, for her powerful canons could fire half a ton of iron and hit more than a mile away.
