John Lennon Wall

The John Lennon Wall in Prague near the Charles Bridge represents the rather recent fall of communism in Eastern Europe. Previously the wall was just another historic city wall, but throughout the 1980's the wall represented a unified protesting voice of students pointed at the then communist regime of Gustav Husak. The wall was filled with John Lennon inspired grafitti and song lyrics by the Beatles. This act eventually led to a clash between hundreds of students and the security police on the Charles Bridge. Today the original portrait of Lennon is lost to years of palimpsest, but the original intent remains present as a contemporary mirror with poems and writings for love and peace.
