MONUMENTO A SANDRO PERTINI

MONUMENTO A SANDRO PERTINI

Aldo Rossi work, devoted to Sandro Pertini, beloved President of the Republic, has been realized in 1990 arousing appreciations and criticisms. The plaza, where the monument is, is set to the intersection between two important roads in Milan: via Montenapoleone and via Manzoni. The space has been conceived as a small plaza lombarada, a calm place of standstill, in a zone that is the center of the commerce and partly of the tourism.
To the extremity of the plaza there is the cube of the stairway that is closed with a wall in stone cut by a triangle in bronze from which water goes down, as a fountain. The cube-stairway is covered with marble of Candoglia, grey and pink, the same marble used for the Duomo di Milano. The Monument to Pertini by Rossi is a symbolic element, a jump of quality, sign of the beginning of a degenerate process of the city by now without control.
It is reached therefore the moment to react, once for all, than the monument to Pertini, therefore like whichever fountainof Milan and the water that they give gushes out, are part of the collective patrimony, property of all, from Milan and not, things public, from the material and immaterial dimension, therefore universal, that they become parched the only ground on which they can put down our feet.
