Ignazio Gardella architetto

Exhibit at Palazzo Ducale in Genova
Ignazio Gardella architetto
through 30 January 2007

A principal figure in 20th c. Italian architecture, Gardella's exhibit features drawings and models from projects across Italy. He was an architect of Italian Rationalism, but his desire to rediscover old building techniques made him almost a “heretic.” In the 1950's, he became interested in regional restoration, but the abstract quality of his buildings is a far cry from the neoliberty or neorealist style. His style reflected a personal dichotomy: his designs conveyed a composure and attention to detail of the classical school, but he adapted his designs to reflect the local character.
